Incredible

By Paul Wickesberg
Sunday, Aug 31 2008, 04:00 PM

The other night on NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams made the observation that following the Republican convention, the time we will have to choose our next President is "incredibly short".  Well, perhaps you might look at it that way, but in my opinion the selection process has taken an incredibly long time.

For more than two years already, the process has been going on. Do you remember the endless debates week after week with a string of candidates on a stage all saying the same thing?  Do you remember how each state became the most important ever in selecting the winner as their election dates approached?

We have known each parties apparent winers for months now.  I don't believe that there are more than a few people who have not made up their minds as to how they are going to vote.

My wife has an idea that  adds an interesting twist.  She thinks that the process could be shortened and improved if each candidate would announce his or her running mate on the same day that the hat is tossed into the ring.  It would indeed separate the wheat from the chaff expeditiously.

Waiting for candidates to announce their choices is like waiting for Bret Favre to make up his mind.

I'm Dropping Out!

By Paul Wickesberg
Wednesday, May 7 2008, 06:09 PM

 Notice to all mass media:

I have endured more than any reasonably intelligent person might be expected to do.  Political ads and political news suck!  From now on I will immediately turn off any news report that has anything to do with the Presidential election in November. There is nothing more that can be said about any issue.  Over and over and over and over, the same issues have been discussed in countless debates sponsored by .... the mass media purveyors.  We are being whipped up to a media frenzy in their hopes that more advertising revenue might benefit their enterprises.

It is nauseating.  Today, during my lunch hour in the employee cafeteria, CNN was blaring.  I endured Hillary pontificating for as long as I could and left quickly to finish eating elsewhere.  It was more than I could take. I quit!

Political news and political ads be damned.

So, you media companies and candidates as well, I will listen no longer.  Save our sanity and your advertising money as well.  Enough already!

I know what you candidates stand for - perhaps only until next week when you might change your mind.  But if you do, I won't know because I've dropped out.

...see you again in November after I've made my vote when I'll tune in again.

The Nuclear Football

By Paul Wickesberg
Monday, Feb 4 2008, 06:32 PM

Our President has, in possession at all times, a device known as the "nuclear football".  This piece of hardware, if activated, could bring global widespread destruction that would bring civilization as we know it to an end. The football is the key to activate missiles with nuclear warheads aimed at targets which the President considers to be our country's enemy.

We have many enemies, and they have similar devices.

Forget national health care.
Forget social security benefits.
Forget the state of our economy.
Forget the rest of the meaningless clap-trap.

Keep this in mind as you make up your mind for the best candidate for the President Of The United States.
No matter your preferred party - all  rhetoric aside - Whom do you trust to carry the football?

Homework assignment:  Ask your preferred news medium to address this issue. I would like to know any responses from them.

Conservatives and War

By Paul Wickesberg
Monday, Oct 29 2007, 11:59 AM

As I grow older it becomes more and more puzzling to me.  Why can't there be a conservative candidate who isn't drooling for war?  President Bush has spent most of his two terms in office minding other people's business than he has taking care of our own. And now his sights appear to be set on Iran as the next target.

The was has been very costly in terms of dollars and lives.  What a waste! Pouring our tax dollars away into a hopeless war that can never be won seems to be the height of folly. And, as it continues the value of our dollar shrinks more and more in the world market.

Republican presidential candidates are hammering away at the anticipated frivolous spending proposed by the Democrats. And yet when Republicans are in power the spending doesn't slow, in fact it increases at an even faster pace.

I'm looking for a conservative candidate who will really reduce federal spending.  Any suggestions?
