From the Village Square

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES of community.

About a year ago, the Village Board promised us a coffee lounge in the basement of the Library, primarily for the older citizens.

Last night at a meeting for increasing the traffic (“keep the traffic moving”) on Capitol, I didn't see the coffee lounge on the basement floor of the Library.

Two disappointing non-events, no coffee shop and only 4 lanes (why not 6) of fast traffic through our “walkable” but soon to be less-walking community, specifically on Capitol Avenue, west of Oakland. Isn't it nice to have a highway shooting through our village.

It certainly will be good place to shop, especially if they remove some of the parking to make space for the more convenient lanes that will “keep the traffic moving.” How will those “walkables” walk across this highway? There is no sense of community setting here. No one gives a “hoot” or is their a harsher word?

Thanks for the coffee shop and thanks for the freeway, and thanks for the memories of community.
